Pellucid Water

"Drinking water is available for free in Japan."
Some will say, "Really!", but many will laugh at me, "Oh dear! it's normal; Why did you mention it?"

Yes, I almost forgot about it by living many years on the Island of Merlion, Singapore where the water resources are wisely used.

One time I visited my home country when I saw my mom about to throw away a half glass of water that nobody had yet drunk, I quickly stopped her and said, "Wait, Mom. Don't throw it away. I'll drink it all."

At that time, my sister asked, " Is there water scarcity in Singapore?", and she didn't understand my weird action. After her question, I realised that I was accustomed to caring about water and not wasting it.

However, there is one problem concerning buying mineral water in Japan even though they treat water for free. We shouldn't consider every clean and transparent liquid in the bottles as mineral water that we usually drink. The reason why is they added some flavour and taste of some fruits such as lime and star fruits. As I cannot read the name and description on the labels, with Japanese words, I cannot decide which one to buy.

Even though some people like to drink those kinds of flavoured water, it couldn't fulfil my thirst. Therefore, I was afraid to buy drinking water worrying about what if it was a flavoured drink. Fortunately, I found that I could choose the right one by checking the pictures of fruits.
As I researched drinking water in Japan, I found some information as below.

There are three types of drinking water in the market that people always drink every day and they are

(1) Regular Mineral Water

(2) Sparkling Water, and

(3) Flavoured and Aroma-Infused Water

(1) Regular Mineral Water: They always put a picture of Mt.Fuji or Mt. Rokko on the label. They are totally local products but they encourage people who don't like the taste to buy another brand because they are soft water.

Aside: We usually drink hard water which makes bubbles and includes more calcium and magnesium. On the other hand, soft water cannot make foam and includes less calcium and magnesium. Therefore, soft water makes people who don't use to drink tasteless and some people who need more calcium and magnesium should choose to drink hard water.

(2) Sparkling Water: They mostly mention Khanji 炭酸 on the bottles but they sometimes use it as sparkling water in English. It is a non-carbonated water, in terms of very natural mineral water without carbon.

(3) Flavoured and Aroma-Infused Water:  As I mentioned above, it includes the flavour of fruits or yoghurt and puts the picture of relevant flavour. They are slightly more expensive than others in the market.

Please make sure that our environment is not destroyed by our actions.
