The Most Peaceful Town in Myanmar

Kalaw is one of the famous towns in Myanmar. It is located above Sea Level 4297ft on the eastern mountain ranges. There are two options to reach there from Yangon, the Business City of Myanmar. One option is to use the road and the other option is to use the plane. Using a Bus or private van will take about 9 hours, but another option will take only 45 minutes if you take a domestic flight.


Why is Kalaw popular for travelling? 

  • One reason is its cool weather. As a highland, the weather is always between 22C and 26C even in summer.
  • The second reason is its unique building design. Most are European style because they were built during the British Colony period. 
  • Another reason is its culture. Both its location and the residents' nature are quite peaceful.
  • The last one is that it is one of the best places for hiking and trekking.

  




How to get there?
If you are outside Myanmar, firstly, you have to come to Yangon or Mandalay where the international airport is located. After that, you can transfer to domestic flights, RGN to Heho or MDY to Heho. You can book here. And then you must take a taxi from Heho to Kalaw. Some Hotels provide airport transfer.

If you want to take the bus, you can buy a bus ticket at Yangon or Mandalay by going to the physical bus station or booking online. You can check here.

There is one interesting route but most travellers rarely use it now. If you are in Thailand or Lao, come to the Golden Triangle area first and pass the border immigration of Myanmar. You will reach Tachileik, a border town in Myanmar. You can take the bus from Tachileik to Kalaw. 

Where to stay? 
There are plenty of hotels as well as various vacation houses. Even though most hotels are 3 stars, the services are quite good. They are very hygienic. But mostly they don't provide breakfast as many travellers like to try local meals by wandering around. 

What to Eat?
You find Kalaw Market first and you will know what to eat. Shan Noodle, Shan warm Tofu Salad, Fried Tofu and steamed meat with banana leaves are the most popular food in Kalaw.
